Halloween.
Every year, on Oct 31, there’s a festival called Halloween. I have checked it in the dictionary, the definition is “The eve of All Saints’ Day”. In chinese, we call it “万圣节之夜”.
2000 years ago, Catholic of Europe made Nov 1st as All Hallows Day. Hallow means honor as holy. The legend from 500 B.C. The Celts lived in Ireland and Scotland moved the festival to Oct 31. They thought this day is the end of summer, and also the new year started, cold winter is coming. People who lived in that time thought ancestors’ soul would come back at this day, and find someone who was alive, then use their body to came alive, and it’s the only chance of ancestors who want to came alive again. People who still had their life is afraid of this, so that they don’t use fires that day to hide from the dead-men, and make up as a ghost to make ancestors ran far away due to afraid of “ghost”. In some old story, It showed that Celts would kill some people to sacrifice the ancestors.
Until the beginning of A.C. The Romans who was the new leader of Celts started to accept this kind of customs, but they don’t allowed killing people for sacrifices.
After that, the Romans has integrate their own way for celebrate the harvest and the way Celts celebrate All Hallows Day, ti became to make up as wild-animal or ghost to make the ghost around them. This is the reason why nowadays people will wear strange costumes on this day.
Times fly, the meaning of Halloween is changed, it start to be happy. The meaning which ghost who want to find a body to comeback alive is start to be forgotten by people.
Now I’m in America, I cannot find a good reason for not to goto West Hollywood for the big halloween party.
So that I rented a car again and went there with my friends. After I came back, I found that I cannot say anything because I cannot use any word to describe it, even in Chinese, my mother language, it cannot be described via one or two word.
Just see the pictures.
How to Rent a Car in US
You already know that I have went to DisneyLand last weekend.
And that time, I have rent a car. I think a lot of student or travelers are thinking about the question, how to rent a car in U.S?
After a few hours researching, and half an hour walking, I sat in the rental car.
FIrst, I have called some of car-rental companies. Like AVIS, Budget, Hertz and so on. But none of them can offer me a car, because I’m underage. Most of them require at least 25 years old, some are 21. But I’m only 20. So I tried another place(sorry i have forgot the name), they said they cannot offer me either, but can tell me one who can do this, named Beverly Hills Rent-A-Car.
After called them, I know that everything was okay.
By the way, what I have is an Chinese Drive License(Driving License of People’s Republic of China), new version, a passport, and a credit card. You can use debit or cash to pay for the fees, but you need a credit card to pay the deposit. What i rent is a compact car, very nice, need $300 for the deposit, and $35 per day for the car, and $20 per day for underage fees(underage is so expensive!). $13.99 per day for Renters Liability Protection(RLP) and $9.00 per day for Limited Loss Damage Waiver(LDW).
By the way, a friend who comes from TaiWan also went there to rent a car, but he could not because his drive license doesn’t have english describe. And I have seen a korean friend who has a international drive license, and my Turkish friends told me that they have rent a car too.
Anyway, to rent a car, what you need is a drive license with english describe, passport or ID card, and a credit card. I don’t know an address in U.S is required or optional, and a phone number.
And a lot of student are asking if foreign drive license can be used in U.S, I don’t know other state, but California, you can use your foreign drive license to rent a car, but it seems you cannot use that to buy a car.
Forget to tell you, some of the car rental company can offer student debate.
Disney Land!
Last Saturday, I went to the DisneyLand. One our drive didn’t make me tired, but excited me.
After bought the ticket, I entered the park. There’s so many people there. Like my grammar teacher Mina said, it’s not a good idea to goto DisneyLand on Saturday. But I still got a very, very, very great Saturday there.

It’s not like my imagine, there’s no Mickey stand in front of the gate. Instead of, there’s a cute squirrel(I forgot the name)

Then, I found that I’m so sad, because I forget almost every cute guys’ name. I mean those guys in Disney movies or animations.
And I found that I really like the buildings in DisneyLand, really.
Today is to late, I don’t have enough time to show how exciting I was, actually I should say how exciting I am, I still stay in that great day!
Another country
Today is the 25th day since I came here, United States.
I don’t know why I have no feeling about leave China. I have traveled to other countries before, but that’s for travel. It seems I should feel something, like sad, miss my home, and so on. But I don’t. I have some Chinese friend who also study in U.S. They are always missing their family. To me, that’s unreasonable.
Okay.
Study hard, that’s what I will only do.
TOEFL is the past tense for me, maybe.
I have took the TOEFL on Jun.7 (GMT+8).
I don’t know how is it yet, maybe what i can say about it is, feel nothing. And,I found that the test is the same as the North America TOEFL questions on Jun.6(New-York Time).
You can find the questions on internet easy, even everybody who took the test already signed their name on the Confidentiality agreements. But the pity is i don’t read it carefully before, maybe I can say it is my real level when the score comes out.
For these 3 months, i don’t know what i did. Maybe just numerous of movies? Maybe only chat with others in English? Maybe really did some work in TOEFL, I have no idea.
Forget that. Now, I’m going to have the interview of my VISA on Jun.10th, which seems hard for me.
Maybe, I’ll never take TOEFL in the future, just maybe.
By the way, hope I can get a great job on the interview, and wish my TOEFL will be good enough.
And, I need to say thanks to Zee, Silvia, and of course my great girlfriend, they really helped me a lot, really.
